Sightings!

Was talking to my colleague and fellow car enthusiast, who just came back from Singapore for CommunicAsia 2008. He saw a lot of Avantes in S'pore.

Even in the Klang Valley, the numbers are growing. How many sold? I don't know. But here's another fellow at Puncak Seri Kelana. Snapped by a disgruntled Honda City driver... thanks Mae!

On another story, I saw a really nice kitted Swift on the way back from work today. Didn't manage to catch the front, but it had a carbon fibre hood. Nice!

Petrol Station Strike Alert!

Today at 11:20 pm, I got an SMS from a friend who works at Shell that said:

"All petrol stations closed for 3 days starting midnight today due to dealers unable to reach agreement with govt."

Due to his affiliation with an established petrol company, I nicely forwarded the msg to my wife & closer friends. After that, I did some internet "research".

1. The Star online (7:30pm) denies the strike, and calls it rumours in Sabah.

2. Lowyat thread (PETROL STATION ON STRIKE!) has lotsa info, mostly nonsense, about this issue:
- Jam at KK and villages nearby as people queue up to fill up
- Some stations in Kuching are jammed up, Bintulu and Sibu ALL jammed packed
- KL has some congestion, but only at certain areas (I left office around 7+ pm today from KLCC area without any major jams)
- LDP (Kelana Jaya) petrol stations are CLEAR
- Klang also reported to be CLEAR
- Kepong petrol stations are packed (must be the bloody kiasu Chinese)
- Someone spotted Subang Petronas with "white and red paper around it" and closed.
- Someone said Shell didn't accept credit card today
- Someones uncle has a friend who owns a petrol station, and said its TRUE! hmm...

3. The Malay Mail online reported that motorist have to pay cash (no more using credit card), while petrol station dealers "jostle with the government" to get their way.

From the same article, I think this snippet started it all:

"In fact, in a show of force, some 3,500 petrol stations had threatened to shut down for eight hours on June 26. However, yesterday, PDAM called off the strike after it was hinted at that the government had agreed to the association’s demands."

The funny responses I read (and personally thought of - I admit) was about the unability to go to work, coz no petrol... *chuckle*

When I asked for clarification from my friend at Shell, this is his reply:

"I also not sure, was passing rumour only. Quite bored today... so trying to be useful."

!@#$%^&*(*&^%$#@!

Car or the year!

Maybank and NST claims that the Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT is the car of the year for 2007.

That, is if you trust Maybank and NST to tell you which is the best car of the year. (I know we don't take that literally...)

US-based Consumer Reports (July edition) says Hyundai Elantra (X20) is the Top Small Car, beating the Honda Civic EX by one point.

Now, the REAL world car of the year award for 2007 goes to a Lexus LS 460.

And the REAL winner in 2008 goes to...

the Mazda2... 8-0

There must be a reason for this, but I don't have the time, and I'm not interested to find out more. Sheesh... well done Mazda... beating names like Merc, Ford, Audi, Cadillac, Nissan and Volvo. Don't you find it strange that Honda and Toyota are not in the list? Well, so is Hyundai... XD

The AWARD WINNERS are:

2008:
Mazda2 / Mazda Demio – World Car of the Year
Audi R8 – World Performance Car
BMW 118d with Efficient Dynamics – World Green Car
Audi R8 – World Car Design of the Year

2007:
Lexus LS460 – World Car of the Year
Audi RS4 – World Performance Car
Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec – World Green Car
Audi TT – World Car Design of the Year

2006:
BMW 3-Series – World Car of the Year
Porsche Cayman S – World Performance Car
Honda Civic Hybrid – World Green Car
Citroen C4 – World Car Design of the Year

2005:

Audi A6 - World Car of the Year

Hope to see Hyundai up there next year!

无聊
Pinyin - wú liáo
Definition - nonsense; bored

I'm thinking about learning Chinese. I'm also thinking about picking up 3G architecture again.

I just washed my car. You can even see the hose unreeled on the floor.

Sigh, damn bored...

More boring stats...

Besides our Klang Valley kaki, this blog is visited by ppl from Kelantan, Johor, New Jersey, Texas, Germany, Canada, etc.

Thanks for dropping by and please do post a comment! :D

ps - I get about 30 hits a day from Search Engines (Yahoo! and Google) searching for keywords like 'elantra x20' or 'incus x20 in malaysia' and etc. Should I look for advertsing from Kah Bintang?

Incus X20 in Malaysia (iv)

After a few days or watching the photos, I went to Kah Bintang @ Jln. 223 to check out the Silver INCUS X20.

1. The back. We've seen this already.

2. The difference between the front & rear rims.

3. The engine compartment looks similar. Only difference is the alarm siren. Mine is a cylinder shaped and located more to the left side.

4. The exhaust, similar to my X20, only with slight view of the rear skirt.

5. Nice!

6. Anonymous model :D

If money is not an option, I will take the grill, side and rear skirts, dual exhaust, side mirrors with signal (auto-retractable).

The front skirt looks a little weird.

On top of that, add:

- a spoiler, as the back looks like its 'missing something'. As mtuc's car:

- a more rounded front skirt, as Zeke's car:

- smoked lamps with squarish eye lid

- shark fin antenna and Lexus badge (haha...)

- retint my glasses gold / metallic black (maybe 2nd layer!)

PERFECT! But we don't live in a perfect world. Until Jesus comes, anyway.

Car Wash

I washed my car (without vacuum) at Mobil (human) drive-through for RM 6 today!

Then it rained. !@#$%^&*(*&^%$#@

ECU Reset (ii)

Wow... immediately after the ecu reset:
1. Car pickup is less, also cos I'm barely stepping on the accelerator pedal
2. Steering wheel is much lighter (as new car)
3. Engine sounds quieter

Strange. Can anyone explain? Or is it just psychological?

ECU Reset

After any performance modifications, hardcore car owners will retune their ECU to achieve maximum performance. Cheapskate owners like you and me, will reset their ECU.

I've heard of 2 ways to do it:
1. Remove the ground (negative) cable from the battery for 30 minutes.
2. Remove the ECU fuse for 30 minutes.

Due to the Pivot grounding installed, I was not going to remove the gound (negative) cable from the battery.

I've changed a fuse before, to allow a higher current flow to the headlights (HID days). So I thought it would be the same. This time, I couldn't find the ECU fuse in the fuse panel... hmm... had to open the 'owner's manual'.

Theres another fuse box in the engine compartment. Any car enthusiast would have known. *tsk*tsk*

Anyway:

1. The fuse panel in car cabin:

2. The location of the fuse box in engine compartment.

3. This is the ECU fuse (I think)...

4. The fused, removed. Btw, I used a long nose plier to remove it.

5. Side view. Please note to close the fuse box carefully.

Electrical failures may occur if water seeps into the fuse box. Do close it tight.

Hope my fuel consumption will improve.

Incus X20 in Malaysia (iii)

The car is at Kah Bintang 223 Branch!! mtuc and sugarring went to visit the Incus X20. Jealous...

Pics courtesy of mtuc (again):

1. The Grill. I don't know, i don't think the red stripe will looks nice on a black car. Maybe a grey stripe. Maybe no stripe.

2. The Grill 2. Theres another horizontal line near the bottom of the grill. I think it makes the grill less boring. Not bad.

3. The shiny rims. Simple, yet sporty. But 'Eastmax'? Yuck. What is VS-Style? Very Sporty Style?

4. 215/45/17. The rubber is exactly my size. But they're using Continental Comfort Contact. Reviews:
- Lowyat: tyre review thread "el-cheapo"
- Motor Trader forummer mentioned "locally made but critically-acclaimed Continental Comfort Contact-1"

5. Incus wording on side skirt. The only Incus badge on the kit.

6. The spoiler looks small here.

7. Close-up of the spoiler's LEDs.

8. Lighted up.

9. Reversed angle.

10. Rear skirts with reflector.

11. Rear skirt reflector close-up. No twin pipes here. Check out the cost below!

12. Looks good from here!

13. Driver's panel. Black is good.

14. Dash. We've seen this already.

15. Rear seats. Reminds me of the 8th Gen Civic.

16. This is the guy responsible for the above photos... mtuc, our friendly THM moderator.

What you're about to see next is top secret, classified photos that were released to only a select few. Snapped by a Hyundai insider (little bird) and sourced from a Singaporean website. Pics courtesy of Sam Chong.

Incus performance dual exhaust mufflers. Its so shiny!

...and for the pricing (most important):

Fittings for a NEW ELANTRA X20:

UPGRADES to a current X20:

*sigh*

too expensive for my budget.
